Year 2 is when we started to get things figured out. I also began to start naming courses of fire so they could become, memorable, and oh boy, are some of these courses, 'memorable'. Year 2 we added 8 rookies that year. At the beginning of the year both Helton and Hitt were running .45 1911s from back when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth, so you will see them near the bottom when it comes to pistol courses of fire. I believe they both got rid of them near the halfway point of the season.

Woodward became our first ever Rookie of the Year. Helton became our first Comeback Shooter of the Year. And Switzer became our first ever Shooter of the Year.

This was also the first year we implemented Rivals. A head to head against whom the Match Director and Range Master thought would be good challengers against each other. This would not really be the case with some shooters. At the end of the page were the records.

Scenario A (repeat of Season 1)

I know, not a great name but trust me, after our rehases from Season 1, I began to get crafty with the names of courses of fire.

But anyway, in this course of fire they had to clear the first plate rack, go to the dueling tree (again with only 5 plates), then finish at the last plate rack.

Pistol Only - 17 Targets

1. Falat - 20.38

2. Schuetz - 22.68

3. Burton - 25.16

12. Hall - 56.14

13. Helton - 89.86

14. Millikan - 94.09

15. Hitt - 119.12

Scenario B (repeat of Season 1)

This course they doubled tapped the target below the plate rack. This year we decided to make it cardboard instead of steel, so we could tell if they hit the target or not.

Pistol Only - 14 Targets

1. Falat - 32.18

2. Schuetz - 37.63

3. Dunkley - 43.42

4. Woodward - 43.63

13. Hitt - 143.01

14. Millikan - 143.86

15. Helton - 148.78

Scenario C, this became 5/5/5

This course we introduced one handed shooting AND one handed reloading. Due to the weather being crappy, we allowed the shooters to holster to reload instead of going down to one knee to do the one handed reload. The course required them to fire five rounds to the target with two hands. Reload, go to one hand strong side five rounds. Reload and switch to weak side for the final five rounds.

Pistol Only - 1 Target

1. J. McCluskey - 25.68

2. Schuetz - 26.18

13. Burck - 55.90

14. Helton - 96.27

15. Hitt - 99.77

Round The World

This course we made something similar to Round The World in basketball. They started with pistol and got a confirmed hit on steel (10 yards). They moved to next spot where they had to get two confirmed hits with rifle (30 yards). Next spot they went prone with rifle and two more confirmed hits on steel (50 yards). Next spot was Shotgun, one slug to a knock down plate (25 yards). Next spot was back to pistol with one confirmed hit on two steel targets. Then back to the shotgun station where they would go in reverse order.

If they missed at any station, they HAD to return to the previous station. They would only be able to regress one spot to attempt to help with them completing the stage. (We had to cap some of the shooters time on this course of fire.)

10 / 10 / 10

This course of fire we introduced misfires. We had NUMEROUS failures with multiple firearms. This was the course of fire were Switzer found out you can shatter a stock. Each magazine had 3 failures in them. It was a fun course, but, the amount of failures we had because the dummy rounds we were using were not good.

15. Dunkley - 154.24

7 / 7 / 7

This course off fire we now made them move and shoot with pistol, but ALSO throw in dummy rounds. We used good dummy rounds for this due to the amount of issues we had with the Rifle. Shooters had 3 targets spaced roughly 15 yards apart and they had 7 rounds per mag. They moved forward and had to deal with the dummy rounds. If they didn't fire all 7 rounds once they passed a target, that mag was dropped and those rounds were counted as misses.

Pistol and Chill

Ah, Pistol and Chill. The Match Director came up with this idea. The shooter will have 10 loose rounds on a table. Magazine out of the pistol. Pistol and magazine also on table. Shooter at the go will place their hands into a cooler full of ice and water for 45 seconds. At the buzzer, they will remove thier hands, load their magazine and fire 10 rounds as fast as they can into a target.

Pistol only - 1 Target

14. Millikan - 44.43

15. Hitt - 86.10

DC Safe Zone

This course of fire restricted the shooters from bringing firearms through this zone. They couldn't bring anything through the zone, so if they missed a shot they would have to return to an area to retrieve the ammo. They could plan on a miss and once they cleared one side of the zone, they could grab the ammo and round around the zone for the second area.

The pistol side had 6 steel targets they had to get single hits on. The shotgun side there were 6 little steel targets that they had to knock down. They only had 6 rounds of ammunition on each side, so a miss was catastrophic.

Draw 25

This month we decided to dedicate to "Duty Month". We used duty firearms and duty qualifications with a garnish of F3G trickery. The first course we made them draw from a level 3 duty holster 25 times. Each time they fired, we would write down the time. A miss added .07 to their time.

Rifle Qualification

This course of fire, we made them do our Rifle Qualification but in one single string. It was a bit grueling for the shooters as they were constantly having to from standing to kneeling positions. They also were using support and non support. Strong and weak sides.

Pistol Qualification

Oh boy, this was fun. We uped the ante and put the New York lvl 2 trigger in the Glock we used. That was fun. It was also entertaining as our 2 firearm instructors were the best times and if 2nd place FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS, he would have had the fastest time. Good stuff.

Little Guys

This course of fire the shooters had to get a confirmed hit on 4 steel targets at 35 yards. Once they did this they moved to the next shooting spot and knock down 11 steel little guys (roughly the size of a playing card, 7 yards away).

This course of fire humbled some of our shooters.

Circles of Hell

Our Range Master constructed this MONSTER. At 150 yards, shooters would be prone and must clear 9 circles. 1 was 8", 2 were 6", 3 were 4" and 3 were 3". So the shooting order would go 8 / 6 / 6 / 4 / 4 / 4 / 3 / 3 / 3. Then have to repeat the same order to complete the course of fire. We would allow shooters to skip circles, but they would have to make 1 attempt in order to skip, for an added time penalty. This was done with rifle and they were allowed to only have 30 rounds to clear the circles.

Rivals

B. McCluskey vs J. McCluskey - B. McCluskey won 10-6

Brother vs Brother

Switzer vs Hall - Switzer won 14-2

This H2H was very surprising seeing how Switzer was garbo the previous year.

Burck vs Millikan - Burck won 12-4

This was Armorer vs Armorer.

Burton vs Mikles - Burton won 12-4

Just who we had left on H2H.

Hitt vs Helton - Helton won 9-7

Both are in similar age group and both started with .45 1911s.

Criss vs Falat - Falat won 16-0

This was insane that, it was so one-sided. Criss was supposed to come in that year and dethrone Falat for the Championship.

Schuetz vs Dunkley - Schuetz won 16-0

This rivalry started in the previous year, when Dunkley won 2nd place and

beat out Schuetz by mere seconds.
